Sikeston announces curfew, food, gas sources

The following information comes from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.

Sikeston City Counsel has approved a city wide curfew from 10:00 pm till 6:00 am.  This curfew will take affect tonight at 10:00 pm and will continue indefinitely.  During this time no one should be out unless you have an emergency.   This was set up for the safety and security of the city.  Please stay home if at all possible.
The power outage continues in the City of Sikeston as well as several other areas throughout southeast Missouri.  Currently, only about 5 to 10 percent of Sikeston is operating with electricity.   This system is still very vulnerable and what power we have may be lost at any time.  It still isn't known when we will be able to restore full power to the city.

Emergency Operation Command (EOC) at DPS HQ is working with various agencies and organizations throughout the area.  We are doing everything we can to mitigate the situation.  This morning a conference call was made to Missouri's State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).   Governor Jay Nixon had already declared a State of Emergency prior to the conference call and state aid is being mobilized for our area.
Currently, we have the Red Cross Shelter set up at Sikeston's Field House for those who need shelter.  We are also in the process of setting up another shelter at the First Baptist Church at 1101 N. Main in Sikeston.  This shelter is just north of MDMC Hospital and should be set up early this evening.  Please contact the church at 573-471-4122 to make arrangements if needed.
Missouri Delta Medical Center has cancelled all elective surgeries for the next 48 hours.  They will only be conducting emergency surgeries during this time.  After this time period, MDMC will re-evaluate this cancellation.  If you have any questions pleas contact MDMC staff member Judy Stokes at 573-472-7591.
