MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - Carruthers Elementary School is brightening the lives of kids in Afghanistan one crayon at a time.
Linda Young, a speech pathologist at Carruthers, says she started small and just asked the kindergarten class to bring in crayons they didn't use anymore.
The past week, this project has exploded out into the community. In just one week, they've received more than 30,000 crayons.
State Representative Mike Bost even showed his support by presenting the school with a check to take care of all the mailing expenses.
Young says every child should have a crayon and as of Thursday afternoon 31,446 crayons were collected, surpassing their goal.
That is why the entire Carruthers Elementary is Making the Grade.
