Police searching for suspect along I-55

5:55pm UPDATE:  According to the Missouri Highway Patrol a Cape Girardeau County Sherrif deputy pulled a man over at the 115 milemaker.  When the deputy went back to his patrol car, the man ran in to the woods west of I-55.

The man that fled is described as hispanic and wearing dark clothes.

The Missouri Highway Patrol and the Cape Girardeau Sheriff's Department are still actively searching for the man.

A K9 unit has been called to the scene from Sikeston.

5:05pm UPDATE:  The Missouri Highway Patrol tells Heartland News that they are searching for a suspect.  The suspect fled on foot.

ORIGINAL STORY: One lane of southbound I-55 is shut down around mile marker 115.

A report in to the newsroom states that Cape Girardeau sheriff deputies and the Missouri Highway Patrol on the scene.

A witness tells Heartland News the deputies were carrying shotguns and hopping the fence near the side of the interstate.
