AVA, IL (KFVS) - A Jackson County business owner credits his alarm system and good police work for catching a thief.

Late Wednesday, the silent alarm at Froemling Tire and Supply in Ava, Illinois, started going off.

Business owners headed towards the store and so did police.

When they arrived they found the back window smashed out, some cash missing, and several tools outside.

Police also found 39-year-old Edward Harris hiding behind the business.

"We came back inside and really didn't see anything thrown around," Fred Froemling said.  "We went back outside to take some pictures of where he had cut the lock.  And that's when one of the deputies shined his light around and caught this guy."

Police say Edward Harris was out on parole for a previous conviction of stealing a car and drug possession at the time of his arrest.
