Cape Girardeau City Manager Steps Down

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau City Manager Doug Leslie announced his retirement at a press conference held at Cape Girardeau City Hall Tuesday afternoon.  His last day will be March 1, 2008.

The search for Leslie's replacement begins Tuesday and will be spearheaded by city councilman John Voss.  Assistant City Manager Ken Eftink will take over as interim City Manager after Leslie retires.  Cape Girardeau Mayor Jay Knudtson says that he expect the process to take 5 months.

Leslie steps down after more than 35 years in city government.  He has spent the last 19 years working for the city of Cape Girardeau (6 years as City Manager and 13 years as Public Works Director).
