Emcon to Lay Off Up to 200 Employees Temporarily

DEXTER, Mo. - Emcon in Dexter will be laying off up to 200 employees.
According to Louie Seay with the United Auto Workers Union, the company will ask employees to volunteer for the temporary layoffs.
Emcom makes parts for General Motors.
Seay attributes the reason for the layoffs to the auto plants they supply parts to shutting down in January, creating less work for Emcon.
The company is expected to call people back to work on January 12th, January 19th and some time in February.
The company announced eight layoffs in November.
A spokesperson with Emcon says the company temporarily lays off employees every year at this time.  He says employees are expected back to work by Jan. 19.
