Plans for New Gas Line in Southern Illinois

Plans for New Gas Line in Southern Illinois
By: Heartland News
Ameren plans to build a new gas line across parts of southern Illinois to increase service.
The new line will run from the Marion area west to Carterville.
Ameren Spokesperson Leigh Morris says it replaces an old line that won't meet new federal regulations.
Morris says there's going to be even more need for natural gas as the area grows.
"Natural gas is going to be playing an increasingly important role as we move forward," Morris said. "Whether it's gas that comes out of the ground or the coal gasification projects. But gas is going to be a very important player as this country moves forward."
Before Ameren moves forward with its plans to build the new gas line in Williamson County, the company wants to hear from you.
You're invited to attend two public meetings.  The first will be Monday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Crab Orchard Golf Course in Carterville.  Another meeting will be Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Marion Eagles Club.
