Noranda Lays Off 51 More Employees

NEW MADRID, Mo. - Job stability continues to look bleak right in the Heartland.
The president of Noranda Aluminum in New Madrid tells Heartland News the company will lay off more employees.
Earlier this week we told you how the company dropped close to 90 jobs.  Now an additional 51 jobs are being dropped.
Fifty-one salaried employees lost their jobs Thursday.  By the end of the first quarter of 2009 another possible 40 union employees will be laid off.
In all, by the end of that quarter in 2009 Noranda Aluminum in New Madrid will have laid off 228 employees.
Local company president Keith Gregston blames the plummeting cost of aluminum as a reason for the cuts.

Company wide Noranda is restructuring and laying off a total of 338 employees, that includes employees at other locations.
