Housing Plant in Benton, KY to Close
By: AP & Heartland News
BENTON, Ky. - Recreational-vehicle maker Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. says it will shut several plants, including one in western Kentucky, and cut jobs in response to reduced demand for manufactured housing.
A spokeswoman says about 760 workers at the eight plants, or 13.3% of the company's 5,700 workers, will be laid off.
Fleetwood notified workers of shutdowns at its manufactured housing plants in Woodland, Calif.; Auburndale, Fla.; Willacoochee, Ga.; Benton, Ky.; and Pembroke, N.C.
This will affect about 135 employees in Benton.
All the plants will complete orders and will begin moving production to some of the remaining 13 Fleetwood Housing Group facilities. The plants are expected to close in about 60 days.
