Police Arrest Suspect for Murder in Butler County

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. - Police are investigating a murder on Butler County.

The body of 54-year-old John Griffen of Poplar Bluff was found about 1:30 Saturday afternoon.  His body was found at an abandoned outhouse on County Road 614.

The sheriff says a suspect is in custody.  Calvin Smith, 32, faces second degree murder charges in connection with the death of John Griffen.

The sheriff says the murder was drug related.  The investigation continues.

According to Butler County Sheriff Mark Dobbs, this is the first murder investigation in Butler County since 2006.
