Salvation Army Still Ringing, Collecting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Christmas bells will still ring for a few more days, so if you haven't dropped some change or bills into a Salvation Army kettle, volunteers with the charitable organization want you to know it's not too late.
"We'll gladly take donations up till Christmas Eve," said Major Ben Stillwell. "You can of course volunteer your time or money year-round with us."
As of Tuesday morning, the Cape Girardeau Salvation Army was about $100,000 short of this year's goal.
Also this week, the group will put together food baskets and toy bags to get ready for the large annual distribution on Friday.
If you'd like to volunteer to assemble those Christmas baskets or be a bell ringer, you can contact the group at 335-7000.
