Web Extra: Cyber Bullying
By: Christy Hendricks
Cyber bullying involves recurring or repeated harm inflicted through an electronic medium like email, instant messaging, online games, or blogs.
It can also be called electronic bullying, electronic harassment, e-bullying, SMS bullying, mobile bullying, online bullying, digital bullying, or Internet bullying.
Electronic bullies can remain virtually anonymous.
According to stopcyberbullying.com, there are two kinds of cyber bullying. Direct attacks are sent directly and cyber bullying by proxy uses others to help bully the victim. Cyber bully by proxy can be either with or without the accomplice's knowledge. Cyber bullying by proxy can get adults involved in the harassment.
Children have killed themselves and others as a result of cyber bullying.
Because motives can differ, the solutions and responses to each type of cyber bullying incident differs as well. There is no "one size fits all" approach for cyberbullying.
