CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri State University administrators and the public celebrated the ceremonial grand opening of the new SEMO River Campus Sunday.
The new state-of-the-art performance and teaching facility has become the first campus in Missouri solely devoted to visual and performing arts.  According to SEMO administrators, that investment in the arts has already paid dividends in terms of enrollment.
"It's helped with our recruitment already.  We had an incoming class of freshmen in the arts department about two times what we had last year, that's an increase of 200 percent," said Visual and performing arts Assistant Dean Dr. Gary Miller.
Dr. Miller says us the new River Campus has also helped increased the number of transferring students by 17 percent.
