Firearms, Appliances Stolen in String of Burglaries

SALINE COUNTY, Ill. - Friday investigators began looking into break-ins at 20 units of a vacant hotel in Muddy, Illinois. No one was living in them at the time, but appliances, TV's, air conditioners, and miscellaneous items left in the rooms were taken.
According to police, this isn't the first time the old hotel has been targeted by thieves. Last time, Sheriff Keith Brown said the suspects responsible for the crime were quickly caught and brought to justice.
"We caught those people as they were trying to make their getaway," said Sheriff Brown. "The last two times, the public have called in and those calls have helped us solve those burglaries. Perhaps somebody saw someone driving away with several small refrigerators and TV's stacked up this time."
This was the most recent in a string of burglaries including two residential burglaries where firearms were stolen.
"Thirteen long guns were taken during all this; rifles and shotguns. Earlier in the year we had two incidents in the north end of the county. We do need the public's help in trying to find these people who are breaking into houses and stealing these guns," said Sheriff Brown.
