CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Democratic leaders in Cape Girardeau have chosen former postmaster Mike Keefe as the party's nominee for the 158th District State Representative.
Keefe was selected over Melinda McCulley in a secret ballot.
He told the party gathering that people familiar with his work know that he is "no nonsense, straight shooting, get the job done person." He mentioned major issues as schools, transportation and health care.
Keefe will face a candidate to be chosen by the Republican party in a special election, Februarys 5, 2008. The winner fills the post left vacant by the resignation of Nathan Cooper who's to be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to federal fraud charges involving an immigration visa scheme.
