State Commission Names Local Attorney in Complaint

The former Cairo city attorney is facing some heat from his peers.
The Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission filed an official complaint against Patrick Cox.
The complaint comes from dealings with his private practice.
There are two counts against Cox in that complaint.
The board says Cox cashed a $2000 check, meant to be held as a deposit in the sale of a business in a divorce settlement.
The second count claims that Cox wrote several checks to his clients from the proceeds of the sale, but forged their signatures on those checks.
He also wrote several checks to himself, according to the group.
The complaint alleges a trust account one of Cox's clients entrusted to him fell to $1,280.55 after starting with $173,000.
