AURORA, Ky. - One person has been found dead after a fire at a marina on Kentucky Lake's Jonathan Creek. The identity of the person has not been learned.
Marshall County Emergency Management Director Duane Hawes says the fire broke out late yesterday afternoon, destroying two boats and damaging at least seven sailboats, houseboats and cabin cruisers.
Marshall County Coroner Mitchell Lee confirmed the death, but further information was not immediately available. The fire at the Towne and Country Marina damaged two of the facility's four docks, but they remained afloat. Houseboat owner Wayne McCraw received minor burns to his right arm, back and hands. Ambulance workers attended to the 56-year-old McCraw. Aurora-Ross firefighter Robert McNeely was taken to Marshall County Hospital for evaluation after showing signs of heat exhaustion. He was treated and released. A bystander also collapsed in the heat and was taken to the county hospital for evaluation. Aurora is a southeastern Marshall county community at the junction of US 68 and Kentucky 80 just west of Kenlake State Resort Park.
