CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - What's more fun than taking a long trip with one of your best friends?  How about traveling down the Mighty Mississippi...by canoe?!?!?
"We've always dreamed of doing it, and here we are," said Craig Zimmer of Big Lake, Minnesota. "We talked about it in high school, so now it's just like the Adventures of Huck Finn."
Craig and his good buddy Nick Slavicek started their journey at the beginning of the Mississippi at Lake Itasca, Minnesota, and plan to travel all the way to mile marker zero into the Gulf of Mexico.
Day 37 brought them to Cape Girardeau.
"We stayed here Monday night and Chuck (Martin) with the Visitor's Bureau really hooked us up,"  said Craig. "We showered, shopped, and he even took us out to eat.  It's a really good example of how great the hospitality has been along the way."
Depending on the current and headwind, the guys can travel anywhere from 20 to 45 miles a day.
"It's been so much fun," said Nick. "It's like a dream come true we're getting to finally make the trip."
Nick and Craig hope to get to the end of the river by late August.
