Train Derailment Near Sikeston

NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. - A train derailment in New Madrid County forced evacuations of homes and businesses in a two mile radius. 
Ten cars plus the locomotive derailed shortly before noon Thursday.
Authorities say the sixth car back carried a hazardous material used to make a wood preservative.  After an inspection,
Hazmat teams did not find a leak and residents were allowed to return to their homes and businesses.

Police are advising those near a train derailment near Sikeston to leave the area until a Hazmat team determines if there is a dangerous threat.

The New Madrid County sheriff has confirmed that multiple cars are on their side. 
Homes and businesses east of the scene near Hwy. 61 have been evacuated.  The entire crew from the train has been accounted for.
Hazmat teams from Sikeston are at the scene and a team from Cape Girardeau is on the way.

SIKESTON, Mo. - Police are advising those near a train derailment near Sikeston to leave the area until a Hazmat team determines if there is a dangerous threat.
The derailment happened near County Road 824 off of Highway 61 south of Sikeston a little after noon today.
The train is carrying a possibly dangerous chemical.  It has not been determined if the chemical has leaked from the train.  No injuries have been reported.
