Laws to Know

Laws to Know
By: Wes Wallace

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Besides the big ones, like theft, assault, and arson, there are plenty other statutes in Missouri law books you might not know about.
"With more than 20 volumes, it's easy to not know everything," said Michael Maguire, a Cape Girardeau attorney.  "Sometimes even attorneys don't remember them all, but certainly the general public doesn't know them."
Here's a quick law lesson.
*If you have your wipers on, your headlights have to be on too.
*If you leave a child unattended in a car, who is under the age of 10, and they cause an accident, you could face criminal charges.
*If an inmate, patient, or other person throws or sprays body fluids on a mental health worker, law enforcement agent, or correctional staff, they could face criminal charges.
Maguire said there are also laws created years ago that had a meaning and purpose back in the day, but now they don't really mean as much.
