Anna resident crowned Miss Illinois

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (AP) - The new Miss Illinois for 2007 is Ashley Hatfield of Anna.

The Union County resident was crowned Saturday night before an audience of some 600 at the Norris Cultural Arts Center in St. Charles, where the three-night competition was held.

Hatfield, who is a brunette, competed as Miss Heartland, eventually winning out over 21 other contestants.

Miss DuPage, Chelsea Fahey of Orland Park. was the first runner-up and Lisa Allen of Batavia was the second runner-up. Allen's identical twin sister, Lauren, won the Miss Illinois title in 2005.

Hatfield will represent Illinois in the 2008 Miss America pageant in Las Vegas this winter. She also won a $10,000 scholarship and other prizes.
