PATTON, Mo. - Late Wednesday afternoon, a truck loaded with compounds used to make a blasting agent overturned near Patton.

Officials on the scene say the truck driver apparently couldn't brake in time for a car stopped on Highway 72 just east of Patton in Bollinger County.

The truck, loaded with several different compounds used for explosives in rock quarries, left a trail of skid marks before flipping on it's side.

Emergency crews and hazmat teams from across Bollinger County and southeast Missouri responded and waited for the chemical company's own hazmat team to come and handle the situation.

Highway 72 has been shutdown for several miles near the accident site, and several homes were evacuated as a precaution.

The highway reopened Thursday morning.
