SIKESTON, Mo. - In Sikeston, Southeast Elementary students put their reading and math skills into action at the Bulldog Cafe.
Principal, Kathy Sturgess, says students often ask why they have to learn reading and math. So, she though a working restaurant complete with waitresses would be a perfect way to show them.
Students must read the menu, then it's their job to count how much money they have and spend it wisely.
"It's hard to pick what you want," said Kayla Gerhardt. "You only have so much money."
Summer school is optional at Southeast Elementary. Students earn money to spend in the Bulldog cafe simply by showing up.
