Kentucky gets new area code

Ky. - Kentucky now has a new area code.
The Kentucky Public Service Commission said Wednesday that area code 364 will replace 270 for western portions of Kentucky.
Some of those cities in the change include Murray, Paducah, Henderson, Hopkinsville and Madisonville.
The new area code will take effect October 1, 2008.
The commission said the timeline could change because an order from the Federal Communications Commission could free up thousands of unused numbers in the state.
