METROPOLIS, Ill. - There are plenty of Supermen, Super girls, and even Super kids to protect Metropolis. So, are Flash Gordon, Spiderman and Captain America muscling in on Superman's hometown?  Organizers of the 29th Annual Superman Celebration say ‘no'.

"Superman's got a lot of friends. There are a lot of super-friends out there," said organizer Jim Hambrick.

Every year, more super heroes and even some super villains converge at the Superman Celebration.

"It's like a superhero version of Mardi Gras... a G-rated version," said Hambrick.

The event already draws thousands of Superman fans from around the country, but if Metropolis becomes an all-around superhero destination, the event could grow faster than a speeding bullet.

"I know there are comic book conventions, but this is the only superhero convention I know of. So this is unique," said Syndi Bruchesky of St. Louis dressed as the X-Men super villain, "Mystique."

"The crowd loves it because they're not just seeing Superman, they're seeing all of their favorite characters here," said Metropolis Tourism Director Tricia Childers.

But is Metropolis big enough for Superman, and all these other superheroes? Childers thinks so.

"I was surprised how many people came dressed up as superheroes, and that is something I'll be looking at for years to come to see if it's something we can expand on and make this celebration bigger and better than ever," said Childers.
