CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Cape Girardeau police are investigating a report of a kidnapping and rape that allegedly happened downtown early Friday morning.

But now police aren't sure if the victim is telling the truth.

Police did sit down and interview the woman. Although they're taking the situation seriously, they don't have any reason to believe anyone should be scared to walk down the streets of Cape Girardeau.

The 31-year-old woman told police that before 2:00 a.m. Friday she was walking down Sprigg Street when an SUV with three men inside pulled up at the corner of Broadway and Sprigg.

She says one of the men forced her in the vehicle.

She then says the men drove to Cape Rock Park in northeast Cape Girardeau where she says they raped her.

After the attack, she says they drove her back downtown and dropped her off.

She reported the alleged incident to police and was taken to the hospital to be examined.

However, police aren't sure all the facts add up which is why police ask if you saw anything suspicious on the corner of Broadway and Sprigg Friday morning before 2:00 a.m. to give them a call.

The suspects reportedly were driving a gold colored SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer.
