METROPOLIS, Ill. - The 29th annual Superman Celebration kicked off Thursday night in Superman's hometown. People from all over the nation gather in Metropolis every year for a weekend of super fun.

Superman-themed activities kicked off at 5 p.m. Thursday with a ribbon cutting in Metropolis' Superman Square. Throughout the weekend there are carnival rides, contests, celebrity autograph signings, comic book art shows, costume contests, and films--all to do with Superman.

The Superhero parade kicks off at 8 p.m. Anyone with a costume is invited to meet at the Man of Steele tent and join the parade, marching down Market Street in Superman's honor.
