Poshard picks U of North Texas official as SIUC's new chancellor
CARBONDALE, Il. -- Southern Illinois University's president thinks he's found the right person to oversee the school's flagship campus in Carbondale.
Glenn Poshard today announced that 57-year-old Fernando Trevino is his pick to be the next chancellor of the roughly 21,000 student school.
Trevino lately has been dean of the School of Public Health at the University of North Texas' Health Science Center, where he also was a professor of health management and policy.
His appointment requires approval by SIU's Board of Trustees, although that panel's chairman says it should sign off on Trevino without hesitation.
Other finalists for the job were John Frederick of University of Nevada-Reno, Sue Kiefer Hammersmith of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and Yash Gupta of the University of Southern California.
