Business evacuated; 150 people sent to hospital
By: Ryan Tate

FARMINGTON, Mo. - After eight hours of wondering and waiting, Jefferson County, Missouri, Haz-Mat teams found nothing in the Accent Marketing building to make the employees sick. Despite that, more than 150 of them went to the hospital Wednesday with upset stomachs, itchy eyes and scratchy throats.

One employee, who did not want to be identified, said many of the employees began coughing and had a hard time breathing around 2:00pm Wednesday. Accent leaders began evacuating the building, and medical crews began taking people to the hospital. The employee tells Heartland News that there was confusion because many people did not know what was going on.

As of Wednesday night, only three or four employees remained in the hospital.

Haz-Mat and emergency crews say the investigation into what happened continues. Accent officials say the building will be open Thursday for business.

Accent is a call center for Sprint customers. It set up the business in the Farmington Industrial Park in 2005.
