BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Virginia Tech President Charles Steger and campus Police Chief Wendell Flinchum say when initial reports of a shooting on the campus came in Monday morning it was believed to be a domestic dispute.
During an afternoon briefing with the news media, the two school officials gave a timeline of what had occurred. Both men also said they initially thought the gunman had left the campus.
Between the time the first call was received by emergency responders and Monday afternoon, local and state police in Virginia were investigating what is being called the worst killing spree in U.S. history.
