The city of Paducah will go smoke-free, but not for six months.
Tuesday night, city commissioners voted to approve the ban that will only allow smoking in retail tobacco stores, tobacco warehouses and facilities operated by private organizations and not open to the public.
With the compromise the commissioners came up, there will be a six month delay in enforcement to allow businesses to adjust.
The ban will now go into effect April first.
Commissioners had been in a deadlock over the proposal, with some wanting an exception for bars and truck stops while others were wanting the total ban.
