Rowe Furniture closing operations In Southeast Missouri

Poplar Bluff, MO - A tough blow for two Southeast Missouri communities with the closing of one plant, and the partial closing of another.
Virginia-based Rowe Furniture filed chapter 11 bankruptcy Monday.
On Tuesday, employees at the Poplar Bluff facility and the Morehouse plant learned most of them will lose their jobs. The company is giving workers an option. They can transfer to the company's two remaining facilities in Virginia.
"It's devastates you, but we gotta take it, try to do better", said Joe McClure. McClure's worked at Rowe Furniture in Poplar Bluff for ten years.
Heartland news reporter Crystal Britt asked him how realistic it is fo him to move to Virginia? "That ain't realistic at all. Relocating your family and everything, people are not willing to do that, so we'll have to seek employment around here", said McClure.
No one from the company would talk with Heartland News on camera. They also wouldn't say exactly how many people will be affected by the closures.
The Greater Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce along with area businesses will team up to hold a job fair at Rowe Furniture in Poplar Bluff on Friday, September 29th. It's scheduled from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Additional job fairs will be scheduled if there's a need.
