Expenses Add Up

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO --As quickly as your child is growing up, your money will be flying out of your pocket. That's because as your kids grow, so do their bodies and their interests, and along wtih that comes a growing list of expenses.
From equiptment for extracurricular activities at school, to extra food at the grocery store, stuff for kids as they grow up starts to ad up. Parents say the biggest cost jump hits them in the check out lane at the grocery store. "He eats us out of house and home," said Cindy Maher of her 15-year old son, Liam. Parents like Rick Renfrow agree, "Oh your probably spend at least $100 to $150 more having a teen as opposed to not."
Then there's back to school cost. Teens with musical interests may decide to be in the band, others will go out for sports.
So, add the cost of braces, clothes, and food for school trips and you might get a grand total of as much as $1000 a month. But, parents say if you plan ahead it'll be worth it to see your kid in those activities.
