Cape Girardeau, MO - A man armed with a handgun had police concerned for his and others safety for nearly two hours Thursday morning.
The standoff began around 3:45 a.m.
That's when the man's son called police. He told authorities his father had been drinking, and was in a bad mood.
Police closed a number of streets around the home, in the 1400 block of Bertling.
The man's girlfriend was also in the house. Around 5:30, she managed to take the weapon from the man when he fell asleep.
She then left the house and surrendered the weapon to officers.
Shortly after that, the man was taken peacefully into custody.
