Operation Bootstrap & Jump-Start

Cape Girardeau,MO - Small business take some big steps in Missouri with help from a program called Operation Bootstrap.

Lack of planning is the reason most small businesses fail with in the first two years. But, with Operation Bootstrap, 95% of businesses were still in operation after two years. Entrepreneurs benefited by pre-planning. eighty small businesses and 138 jobs were created.

Now, the Entrepreneurial Research Center, in conjunction with Southeast Missouri State University is launching a new program called Operation Jump-Start.

Bill Vickery of the Southeast Innovation Center says the program is already underway in Dexter and will begin soon in Cape Girardeau, Park Hills, and Sikeston. Thanks to grants, the course is free and even offers a financial incentive. "Those who complete the course and meet the requirements could get up to $5000 to start up their business," said Vicke

y. "Getting started is the hardest part."
Operation Jump-Start is designed for people with low to moderate incomes who want to start their own business. It gives them an opportunity to test their plan on paper before testing it on the public.

Operation Jump-Start is a 36 hour course that meets twice a week, for six weeks. It's very popular, and right now there is a waiting list.
