Poplar Bluff, MO -A homicide investigation the day after Christmas keep police busy in Poplar Bluff.

The shooting happened outside a house on Benton Street, shortly after 11 PM.

Police say they found the body of 17-year-old Lawrence James Warren Junior inside his pickup truck.

That activated the Butler County Major Case Squad.

Investigators do not have a motive, but say the deadly shooting was certainly not random.

Police say they do have a few persons of interest, but so far haven't released information on any suspects.

The victim's friends and family say they too are anxious to find out who killed their loved one.

"He was nice he lived playing football and going and enjoying himself with people very friendly," Marsha Gladney says even though her son had three children he was mostly a big kid at heart.

Lawrence Warren Junior's life was tragically cut short, when someone gunned him down late Monday night.

"I wanna ask them why did they have to do this just why he didn't have to like that he's too young. He had three kids that won't see daddy no more," Gladney says.

Charlene Johns, Warren's girlfriend and mother of one of his children, came home from work to find her front yard a crime scene, and the love of her life, dead.

"It's senseless," Assistant Police Chief Gary Pride says.

As investigators continued their search for answers they assured Johns they wouldn't stop until they tracked down Warren's killer or killers.

"We have a lot of highly trained investigators who are concentrating their efforts on this case, and we feel like we're gonna see some positive results," Pride points out.

Until that happens, Marsha Gladney says she, like Charlene Johns will hold on tight to fond memories of their loved one.

Police ask anyone with information, to call Poplar Bluff Police at (573) 785-5776.

Investigators say callers can remain anonymous, but they would appreciate any new information.
