Cape GIrardeau, MO - Work, relax, and meet. You can just about do it all at the new Center for Student Involvement at Southeast Missouri State University.
"It's very laid back, very much a place conducive to do work," explains Lara Glauber, Vice President of the Student Government Association, "It's very welcoming with all the couches and chairs, and the big screen TV."
Before, student club offices were scattered across campus, but now there's a centralized place for them too meet. 13 offices plus ample meeting space to be exact.
"We can have officer meetings in here, this is the perfect place to do that," explains Garrett Stricker, President of SEMO's Accounting and Finance Club, "It's very handy."
As Stricker sits at a laptop using wireless Internet service, he surfs the Internet. He's just one of a half dozen students trying out the new 'computer bar'. Students can bring their own laptop or check one out from the Center.
"I really like it," says Stricker, "It looks like a fun place to come and hang out and use the computers and work or just have fun."
An interior design class designed the space, the student body voted on their favorite design, and it was used to create the space.
Architectural work on the Center was done by Southeast’s Facilities Management. Total cost of the interior work was $880,000.
