Suspect in custody after manhunt in Perry County, MO

PERRY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Perry County, Missouri Sheriff's deputies have taken a man into custody who took off running from a traffic stop.

According to Perry County Sheriff's Office, Jordan Lee Mahathath, 24, of Perryville, Mo. has been captured in Chester, Ill. Mahathath was arrested with Daniell Niccum. Both were in possession of heroin, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Niccum may be facing charges of harboring a fugitive.

According to the Perry County Sheriff Gary Schaaf, around 12:48 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, a Perry County deputy saw Mahathath driving a vehicle while his license is revoked.  

An attempt to stop Mahathath resulted in a pursuit throughout the county, going north on US 51 to Hwy C, to Hwy D and back to US 61 near Longtown, Mo.  

The vehicle had hit stop sticks and Mathathath abandoned the vehicle.  

He ran through the backyards of several homes and stole another vehicle.  

When he got back on the road the was pursued again up 61 to Perryville, where the Police department was waiting for him. 

He was able to turn around and head back south on 61 to PCR 500, where he eventually abandoned the stolen vehicle after hitting another set of stop sticks.  

A manhunt began for Mahathath.

Mathathath is on parole for theft of more than $500 and possession of controlled substance.  

A gun was found in the vehicle, along with other items under investigation.
