Jackson, MO - Some quick work by Jackson Police detectives this weekend ends with a suspect behind bars.

It all started when police pulled a man over for speeding early Sunday morning.

The man told officers he was on his way to help his friend's baby sitter, after the teen claimed she had been raped.

"I received a phone call from my baby sitter saying that she had been raped and I got here it turned out to be my downstairs neighbor," the woman who hired the baby sitter told Heartland News.

Police say that neighbor, 26 year old Juan Thomas is an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

He now sits behind bars on $ 100,000 cash bond.

Details of how the alleged attack took place are sketchy.

Thomas tells police the 15-year-old girl offered to perform a sexual act on him.

She tells investigators thomas pulled her into the laundry room where he allegedly raped her.

"We all feel like it was our fault we feel responsible for her even though it was an uncontrollable situation," Susan, as she asked to be identified, says.

Susan hired the teen back in June to watch her two young boys, and she has been their sitter ever since.

"I was worried about the safety of my children, that's the first thing I did was come and check on them when I got that call," Susan says, but she never imagined she'd have to worry about her baby sitter's safety too.

Christy Young who lives an apartment over from Susan, says that just goes to show you should never let your guard down.

"I'm happy the police got whoever did it to her," Young says.

Back in her apartment, Susan hopes the young teen recovers, and adds she herself may never be able to leave her children alone again.

Juan Thomas faces felony forcible rape charges and second degree statutory rape charges.

The investigation continues and we will keep you posted on what happens next.
