METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) - Harrah's Metropolis and other area businesses and organizations will distribute school supplies gathered through fundraising and donations on August 3.
Residents can stop at the Metropolis Community Center on Friday starting at 5 p.m. to pick up items, while supplies last.
"Beginning a new school year can be very stressful for both kids and parents. Our goal for this event is to make sure we help alleviate the stress and make the start of the new school year enjoyable for each of the kids," says Chad Lewis, Advertising and Public Relations Supervisor for Harrah's Metropolis.
Adults without children present are allowed up to 3 students' supplies. Once through the line, they may return to the back of the line for the chance to get more supplies.
Dental Safari Company, a mobile dentistry company specializing in children of all ages 0-18, will be on site offering dental exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants as needed. Any child is eligible and it is at no cost to the family. Dental Safari accepts Illinois medical card and all private insurance.
The Massac County Drug Awareness Coalition (MCDAC) will be handing out drug awareness buttons among other supplies.
Area stylists are donating free haircuts at the event along with the supplies and services being offered this year.
The event is scheduled to run while supplies last and open to the public.
