(KFVS) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake will be hosting its annual Backyard Campout and Owl Prowl on July 7.
The event will take place at the Rend Lake Visitor Center from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
This year the evening will begin with Camo the Clown, Southern Illinois' favorite conservation clown.
Camo will inspire young audiences to explore the wonders of nature with the "Outdoor Adventure Show!"
The show begins at 7 p.m. with colorful stories, props, wild theatrics, and even live animals!
Following Camo's show, at 7:30 p.m. Rend Lake Park Rangers will take the audience outside for backyard campout fun!
Enjoy the campfire and backyard games, meet the Visitor Center's resident spider, learn about creatures of the night, create crafts, and more!
When the sun begins to set, learn how you can join the secret "Spider Sniff Society," as we test our senses and search for spiders in the garden.
When the sun completely sets, Park Rangers will conclude the evening programming with a walk through the woods for an "Owl Prowl" to listen to the calls of owls.
This program is an outside adventure so it is recommended that you bring lawn chairs, insect repellant, and a flashlight.
Then join us Saturday, July 14 from 7:00 p.m. to 9 p.m. for "Night Skies" with Rend Lake College Astronomy Instructor, Greg Hollmann.
Learn about the constellations that embellish the vast night skies through the view of a high-powered telescope!
Mr. Hollmann will also share the latest space news.
