32-year-old man drowns at quarry in northern Cape Girardeau County

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Emergency crews have recovered the body of a drowning victim at the quarry near Old Appleton, MO.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, the victim is 31-year-old Benjamin N. Dierker from Arnold, MO.

Troopers say Dierker jumped from a rock formation into the water, surfaced, then went back under water some time around 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1st.

His body was recovered by search crews a he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

Multiple crews responded, including Jackson Fire and Rescue, Missouri State Highway Patrol and Cape Girardeau County officials.
