PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

James "Jim" Arndt has been sworn in as City Manager in Paducah, Kentucky on July 2.

He invited all city employees to meet with him at the Robert Cherry Civic Center. Arndt doesn't want to be chained to his desk.

“You have to be intentional to help me break the chain," said Arndt.  "I do appreciate what you do for the city.  You are the face of the city.”

He also wanted to learn the names of all of the City's 300 employees.

“I will be guilty of wearing my I love Paducah hat," he said.  "I challenge you to put on your I love Paducah hat and wear it with pride.”

The Paducah Board of Commissioners approved an emergency ordinance for James (Jim) Arndt to serve as Paducah’s next City Manager in May 2018.

The agreement is for three years, His base salary will be $137,500 plus benefits with a performance evaluation to be held in six months.

This comes after three candidates were interviewed on May 22.

Arndt was the city administrator for Effingham, Illinois. He had served in that position for eight years.

“I’ve been hearing from my friends around Illinois in how lucky we are in getting him [James Arndt]," City Commissioner Sarah Stewart Holland said.
