BARTLETT, TN (WMC) -

A woman drowned in a Bartlett pool during a Fourth of July party.

Bartlett Police Department said officers arrived at a home on Bruton Parish Cove at around 2 a.m. on July 4.

People at the pool party said they were sitting on the deck near the pool when someone noticed a woman at the bottom. The people at the party jumped into the pool, pulled the woman out, performed CPR, and called 911.

The woman is identified as 23-year-old Darian Towns of Memphis. That last time the woman's mother heard from her daughter was when she was on her way to the 4th of July party.

"So, she called me and said she had work done on her car, she was finished," Donell Towns, victim's mother, said. "And she had fireworks and she was going to a party. That was the last time I talked to my baby. The next time is when I got a phone call."

That phone call came from Darian's fiance' telling Donell that Darian was rushed to the hospital.

Her mother said she was a White Station graduate and track star. She was a student at Xavier, where she also ran track and the fact that she drowned is suspicious.

"She could swim. She had been swimming every day to fit into her wedding dress," Donell Towns said.

But, Towns said that's not the only suspicious thing that happened after her daughter drowned.

"Someone stole her car so that's an ongoing investigation too. So, when my baby was laying there dying, someone stole her car and they found it in Southaven, Mississippi," Towns said.

Towns was engaged to be married in August.

Investigators said the woman's death remains under investigation. Nobody has been charged with a crime at this time.
