COBDEN, IL (KFVS) - The Cobden Marching Appleknockers are back home on Tuesday afternoon, May 30 after performing in the National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C.
The Appleknockers were one of seven high school bands representing Illinois in D.C. for Memorial Day weekend.
The students said it's something they will never forget.
This wasn't just your average parade, this one held a big significance.
"It just gave me the experience of being in the parade and how important the parade is," sixth grader Drake Campbell said. "It's the day all the veterans gave us freedom and our life."
They were able to play this once-in-a-lifetime performance thanks to the community. They rallied around the band, raising funds through events in the area to pay for the students' travel expenses.
