Giant City State Park to offer butterfly monitor training

MAKANDA, IL (KFVS) -

Join the Illinois Butterfly Monitoring Network on Saturday, April 1 for an informative and interesting workshop for those wanting to learning how to help monitor the butterfly population in Southern Illinois.

This free program will take place at Giant City State Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public.

The training includes an introduction to the program, how to collect and submit data, butterfly identification and field instruction (weather permitting).

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources administers the Giant City State Park.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ mission is to manage, conserve and protect Illinois’ recreational, cultural and natural resources, further the public’s appreciation and understanding of those resources, and promote the education, science and public safety of Illinois’ natural resources for present and future generations.
