CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Some businesses around the Heartland are actually hoping for substantial snow Thursday.

Snow means winter work and money for those in the snow removal businesses.

Matt Strickland owns Strickland Lawn Service.

While the majority of his work comes in the warmer months, he spent the Wednesday afternoon getting his plows ready and ice spreaders filled ahead of the chance of snow.

Like many others in the lawn care business, he relies on the snow and ice removal to supplement his winter income.

"Snow removal it's not too reliable this year as far as making income,” he said. “So any snow that we do get this time of year is a good benefit for us to make some extra money."

Snow removal crews spent much of the Wednesday night salting parking lots and driveways. And many of them will be on call early Thursday morning ahead of the snowfall.

Parts of the Heartland are expected to see anywhere from zero to three inches of snow over the course of the day.
