High speed police chase in Princeton, KY leaves fleeing car in the river

PRINCETON, KY (KFVS) -

A man is behind bars after a high speed police chase in Princeton, Kentucky.

Princeton police officers tried to stop a man driving on West Main going the wrong way on a one-way street at 11:57 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2017.

When officers turned on their emergency lights to pull the vehicle over, the driver then sped away, reaching speeds over 90 mph on Cadiz Road.

The Cadiz Police Department assisted in the pursuit and used a device to deflate the tires of the man's vehicle at the intersection of Bush Road and KY 139.

The car then drove into the Little River and the people in the car were helped back onto land by Princeton officers, Cadiz officers, Trigg County Deputies and Kentucky State Police also helped at the scene.

Derek E. Summers, 38, from Woodlawn, TN was arrested and charged with two counts of disregarding traffic control device, two counts of disregarding a stop sign, two counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree and fleeing from police in the first degree.

Trigg County also has pending charges on Summers from the car chase.

The passenger in the vehicle is not facing any charges.
