CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A man is behind bars after firing a rifle at a driver in another car in Calloway County on Monday morning.

According to the Calloway County Sheriff's Office, 53-year-old Howard Kaler of Hickory, Kentucky, was arrested after a dispute on Newsome Road, northwest of Kirksey, around 11 a.m.

Deputies were dispatched in response to a report of shots fired.

Further investigation showed, the victim was pulling into his driveway on Newsom Road when he met the suspect traveling in the opposite direction.

Deputies say that is when Kaler allegedly pointed a rifle out the driver's window and fired at the victim.

The victim was not injured.

Investigators say Kaler fired the shots and drove away in a black sedan.

Troopers with Kentucky State Police located the suspect's vehicle in Graves County and were able to take Kaler into custody.

The sheriff's office says the suspect and the victim exchanged words at a gathering a few days before, which could've led to the shooting incident.

Kaler was charged with two counts of wanton endangerment, a class D felony, two counts of discharging a firearm across a public road, and one count of menacing.

He was booked at the Calloway County Detention Center.
