CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Senator-elect Tammy Duckworth toured the Small Business Development Center at Southern Illinois University on Thursday, December 29.

Duckworth will serve on the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee when she is sworn in as Illinois' next U.S. Senator on January 3.

Also while there Duckworth sat down with KFVS to discuss her newly introduced Seatbelt bill. Duckworth and Tennessee Senator Steve Cohen co-signed the bill requiring all new school buses to have seatbelts.

The two wrote the bill after Chattanooga bus crash in November.

The center's executive director, Dr. Kyle Harfst, and Carbondale Mayor John "Mike" Henry joined Duckworth for the tour.

They also met with the Granite City steelworkers.
